La Cucaracha
I have been thinking lately about the songs parents sing to children. What are we meant to learn from "The Itsy Bitsy Spider," "Mary Had A Little Lamb" or, my father's favorite, "Que Sera Sera" (Whatever Will be Will be).
Of course, my upbringing is not one on which to judge such ditties. I'm not even sure that I've got the words right since my father insisted that the words to "La Cucaracha" are "Marijuana que fumar" (Marijuana is for smoking.) Is this what fathers are meant to sing to daughters as they brush their hair at night?
Maybe this is the reason for my lifelong aversion to hair brushing. . .but that is another matter.
Does anyone know what the right words to that song are? And where did the drug connection come from (other than my family's twisted minds)?
